The first book I recall from childhood is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. I was raised an Army brat and living in Germany when I was in kindergarten. I remember finding this book on the school library and bringing it home. My mother fell in love with this book as she read it to me, talking about Brown Bar-ba loots, Truffula Trees, and Thneeds, which everyone needs. I don't know if any other child ever got to enjoy The Lorax that year, but my mother and I created great memories with that book. When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, my mother's first gift to us was a copy of The Lorax, which she has read many a time to my children.
